When doing moves with pianos we always utilize our movers who are highly experienced in piano moving. To be adept at moving pianos is a unique skill that takes many years of experience to master. Very few movers can do it well. Some of our men have been moving pianos for over 15 years. We believe that there are many pianos that we have moved that were so difficult, even for our most experienced movers, that they would not be in the location they are now if Burrows Moving Company personnel had not moved them. When we move a grand piano we first pad it like a mummy, then secure our special piano cover over the padding. Then we place a padded skid board onto the long flat side of the piano and carefully tip it up onto its side (careful to not break a piano leg, which is easy to do at this point). Then we remove the legs and the lyre, finish padding the piano and put it up onto a special four-wheel piano dolly to move it. We move upright pianos with very little padding (in order to be able to grip them) mostly on special four-wheel piano dollies, carrying them very, very carefully up and down stairs or around obstacles as needed. All of this takes great skill especially when a curved stairway is involved, or when the headroom over the movers is low or the stairway is very narrow or the steps are steep and/or narrow.
